The Future of K-12 Classrooms

Technology has become an integral part of our day-to-day lives. Whether it’s listening to podcasts in bed late at night, to teaching children times-tables on the iPad.
So, how has this evolution in technology impacted the classroom environment? Over the last 30 years we’ve gone from black boards to interactive whiteboards; overhead projectors to digital projectors; writing books to lap tops; and, text books to YouTube (just to name a few).  So what’s next?
Here’s two technology advances that educators believe will change the face of classrooms:
Biometrics – a technology that recognises people based on certain physical or behavioural traits, is on the technological horizon. The science will be used to recognise the physical and emotional disposition of students in the classroom, altering course material to tailor to each individual’s needs based on biometric signals.

Multi-touch surfaces – commonly used through equipment such as the iPhone, but the technology could become more relevant to education through entirely multi-touch surfaces, such as desks or workstations. This could allow students to collaborate with other students, even those around the world, and videos and other virtual tools could be streamed directly to the surface.
